The 6 checks
- Registered company. Search the name on Companies House (find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk). It should be active.
- Guaranteed draw date. The terms should say the draw happens on the date, sold out or not.
- Free entry route. UK prize comps should offer free postal entry. If there's none, walk away.
- Live or recorded draws. Good sites draw on Facebook Live or YouTube and post the winner.
- Past winners. Real names or first names with towns, photos and prize handovers.
- Clear terms and contact. A UK address, an email that gets a reply and readable terms.
What we do
We run checks like these on every site before it goes on our list. Sites that fail are never shown. We say "projected" odds because they're estimates, and we never take money to move a comp up the list.
Questions
How can I tell if a competition website is a scam?
Check for an active UK company on Companies House, a guaranteed draw date, a free postal entry route, live draws and past winners. Missing several of these is a warning sign.
Do UK prize competitions need a free entry route?
UK prize competitions that need skill or offer free entry fall outside lottery rules. Most genuine sites offer a free postal entry. Check each site's terms.
