How we rank
We rank competitions by one thing only: the projected odds of a single ticket winning when the draw happens.
1. Like for like
Comps are split into prize pools by what the prize is worth, so a £50 voucher is never ranked against a car. For watches, cars and any prize with a cash alternative, we use the cash figure, because that's the amount you could actually take. Each pool has its own odds limit, and we only show comps that beat it.
| Prize pool | We only show odds better than |
|---|---|
| Up to £1,000 | 1 in 100 |
| £1,000 to £2,500 | 1 in 200 |
| £2,500 to £5,000 | 1 in 300 |
| £5,000 to £10,000 | 1 in 400 |
| £10,000 and over | 1 in 500 |
If we can't find a prize's value, we use the strictest limit, 1 in 100.
2. Best odds first
Inside each pool, the comp with the best projected odds comes first. You can also sort by ending soonest. The gold Best actual win chance button shows the single comp with the best projected odds across every prize, even if the prize is small.
3. Guaranteed draws only
We only list comps whose terms give a fixed draw date, and say the draw goes ahead whether or not every ticket sells. Comps that can be extended or cancelled for low sales are left out. See which comps we list.
4. How we work out projected odds
- We collect the tickets sold, the ticket limit and the closing time from each operator's website. Comps closing soon are checked as often as every few minutes.
- We project how many tickets will be sold by the draw, based on how fast they are selling now.
- Projected odds = 1 in the projected number of tickets sold at the draw. For example, 400 projected tickets means about 1 in 400 per ticket.
Odds are per ticket. Buying more tickets improves your chance, but costs more. Free postal entries can't be seen from outside, so they aren't counted.
5. Money never changes the order
Payment from operators never changes a competition's position. Every comp that meets these rules is shown, whether or not we earn from it. See how we make money.
Projections can be wrong
Sales can jump near closing, and operators can change their competitions without telling us. The last-updated time on each listing shows how fresh the figure is. Always check the operator's own website and terms before you enter.
